      Introduction
      Huashan Liu, born on 20th Dec. 1969, PhD supervisor, professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering, Central South University (CSU). Gainer of "Program for New Century Excellent Talents of Ministry of Education of China" in 2004.

      Education

      1987.9-1997.9 undergraduate, graduate, and PhD in School of Materials Science and Engineering, Central South University of Technology (present CSU).

      Work Experience

      1997-2000 Assistant professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering, CSU;

      2000-2002 Post doctor in Department of Material Science, Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan;

      2000-2003 Associate professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering, CSU;

      2003-present Full professor in School of Materials Science and Engineering, CSU.

      Academic Achievements

      (1) Thermodynamic database for Au-Sn based solder system involving 17 components has been established.

      (2) A quantitative criterion for predicting formation of the first phase in the interface reaction of a binary metallic systems has been proposed, which is also applicable to a simple multi-component reaction.

      (3) Au-20Sn (thickness 20-50um ) eutectic solder foil has been manufactured, and its related transient liquid phase soldering joint with Ni(Cu) was further realized which shows good mechanical properties and good thermal stability.

      (4) On the basis of thermodynamic calculations, a modificator for high-carbon iron-based melts was developed. The related patent has been granted.

      Up to now, more than 130 academic papers were published in peer-reviewed journals, including J. Mater. Res., Intermetallics, J. Electr. Mater., J. Phase Equil., J. Alloys & Compds., CALPHAD, Z. Metallkd., Mater. Sci. Eng.A, J. Mater. Sci., etc.

      Metal Materials and Heat Treatment, for undergraduate, honored as National course of high quality.

      Materials Science Foundation, mainly Ternary Phase Diagrams and Phase Diagram Application. Undergraduate and graduate course, honored as National course of high quality.

      Electronic-Packaging Materials and Processes, Graduate course in Materials Science and Engineering.

      Computational Materials Science. PhD course in Materials Science and Engineering.

      Research Interests

      1. Phase diagrams: measurement, thermodynamic calculation of alloy (including nanomaterials) and thermo-database establishment.

      2. Interface reaction in soldering and electronic packaging: solder design and fabrication, soldering process experimental determination and dynamics simulation.

      3. Phase transition of alloys: real-time measurement and dynamics simulation of phase transformation under large driving force.

      4. Wear-resistant alloy: cast-iron, steel, copper-based alloy etc.

      Academic Reward

      The corresponding paper “Isothermal sections of Al-Ni-Zr ternary system at 850 ℃ and 1050 ℃” published on “J. Phase Equil. & Diffus.” By Qiang Chen won “The 2013 Editor Choice Award”.
